• Rare Disease Day

Welcome to the website of Aware4Rare – Let’s make rare diseases exactly that: rare!

Imagine a person becomes very ill. Every doctor they see proclaims a diagnosis, but each one is different. They become financially insecure because of the enormous amount of money going into their treatment, and can’t work because of the illness. Their lack of diagnosis also affects their insurance coverage. Now imagine that person is a friend, a family member, or even yourself. This is the story of many individuals affected by rare diseases.

300 million people worldwide are living with a rare disease. Rare disease currently affects 5% of the worldwide population. Any disease affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the United States is considered rare. 25-50 million Americans are living with rare diseases. There are 7,000 + identified rare diseases.
